Meet our 2018 Summer Camp staff team!
Our staff team includes teachers, coaches, professors, University staff, recreation professionals, university graduates/students, varsity athletes, and senior high school students. Each staff member is committed to providing exceptional summer experiences to campers and youth.
We’re pleased to introduce to you our staff team!
This is Chris’ fourth summer at Ryerson Summer Day Camps, and his 2nd year as the Seasonal Camp Coordinator. With a Music Education degree from McGill University, Chris is super excited to share his musical abilities and leadership with campers and counsellors this summer. He is also eager to share his secret talent of drawing horses
Katherine is entering her 5th summer here at Ryerson Summer Day Camps, but has been involved in camps for the past 15 years as a Camper, Volunteer, Leader-in-Training and Staff respectively. Katherine just finished her 4th year at Ryerson University currently studying RTA Sport Media and is on the University’s Women’s Basketball Team. Growing up she was a multi sport athlete competing in Track and Field, Basketball, Volleyball (beach and indoor), Dance, Badminton, and many more sports. In the community Katherine has completed 75+ volunteer hours throughout her 4 years at Ryerson, she also works with Rising Rams, doing weekly visits to local elementary schools, and Rams in Training, an after school sports camp program for high school kids in Toronto. Katherine has organized many events including a Syrian family fun day in 2016, and has raised over $4,000+ for the team’s breast cancer Think Pink basketball game.
Meghan is very excited to be at Ryerson for her fourth year as a staff member, and third year in the position on Camper Experience Lead! A recent graduate from Ryerson’s Early Childhood Studies program, Meghan is well equipped to ensure that all campers have an awesome experience this summer. Her hobbies include reading, making photocopies, and riding her bike really fast.
This is Katie’s third year at Ryerson Summer Day Camps but her first year as the Program Lead. She is very excited to take on such an exciting job this year! During the school year, Katie teaches Social Sciences at a high school in the GTA. Katie loves making the campers smile and can’t wait for a game of Counsellors VS Campers dodgeball.
Vicky is going into her final year of nursing right here at ryerson! Vicky is very familiar with ryerson athletics programs and is super excited to be taking part in her very first summer camp experience this summer. Vicky is looking forward to keeping everyone safe this summer and sharing stories about her best friend: her dog
Keira is so happy to be taking on a new role of special projects in her third year at ryerson summer day camps and her 15th summer attending summer camp! Keira is currently finishing her training in theatre at Humber and hopes to continue in her pursuit of theatre for young audiences. Hopefully this summer you will get to a a chance to attend one of Keira’s epic random dance parties
Sarah is currently studying in Ireland to become a doctor. Sarah is ecstatic to be spending her fourth summer here at Ryerson Summer Day Camps and is hoping this will be her best summer yet, with lots of new pool games.
This is Nick’s 9th summer with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. He attended Ryerson as a camper for 5 years and has since worked for the camp as a volunteer, counsellor and now, Media Lead! He is going into his fourth year of RTA Media Production at Ryerson University and can’t wait to continue to grow the camp’s brand. Nick loves reading, animation, corgis and Star Wars.
This is Ana’s third year with Ryerson Summer Day Camps, and her first year as a Second Year Leader in Training Facilitator. Ana has graduated with a History Degree at Ryerson and is going into her Second Year of Bachelor of Education at York University. Ana enjoys playing video games, hanging out with her bird, and reading graphic novels. She is looking forward to running some great leadership programming with campers this summer.
This is Tom’s second year as a member of the Ryerson Summer Day Camps team, but his first year as a First Year Leader in Training Facilitator. Tom has previously worked as a counsellor for the YMCA, UofT Camps, and Educationally. Tom has acquired a degree in Child and Youth Care from Ryerson University and will be moving into his first year of Masters in Teaching at the University of Toronto this fall. Tom loves to play basketball and hockey. He is looking forward to forming connections with all campers this summer through various recreational activities as well as leadership initiatives.
Gabby is going into her final year at Laurier where she studies psychology. Gabby is happy to be spending her second summer here at Ryerson summer day camps and her 21st summer at summer camp. Gabby can’t wait to share all of her camp knowledge with the LITs.
Zeinel is returning for her second year as a multisport counsellor. She has a bachelor’s degree in child and youth care, as well as a bachelor’s degree in education. She is passionate about working with children and youth and is excited to be back at camp!
This is Niall’s second year working as a Multi-Sport counsellor for Ryerson Summer Day Camps. Niall has also volunteered with Ryerson Summer Day Camps in previous years. He has recently finished his first year of New Media at Ryerson University. Niall plays rugby and volleyball and loves all sports. He is very enthusiastic about camp and loves to sing!
Natalie is excited to be back with Ryerson Summer Day Camps for her third year as a Multi-Sport counsellor! She has also volunteered with the camp in previous years. She will be attending Ryerson’s Child and Youth Care program in the fall. Natalie has a background in competitive swimming and archery and enjoys all sports.
This is Harrison’s first summer as a Multi-Sport counsellor with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. Prior to becoming a counsellor, Harrison was both a volunteer and an Leader in Training at Ryerson Summer Day Camps. He loves sports, in particular basketball and volleyball. He is a confident and energetic leader and could not be more excited to spend the next 8 weeks at Ryerson Summer Day Camps!
Kirsten is going into her second year of Film Studies at Ryerson University. This is Kirsten’s first summer with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. She loves to play soccer and dogs are her favorite animals!
Meghan is a fourth year student at the University of Guelph. This is her first summer working with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. Meghan was a camper at various day and overnight camps for 14 years. She has a long history of playing competitive sports and is dedicated to working with kids of all age groups and skill levels. Meghan is looking forward to a great summer with campers and staff alike!
Aleksa is a third year student studying International Development at the University of Guelph. This is her first summer working with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. She is excited to take on the role of Multi-Sport counsellor. Aleksa loves Star Wars with all her heart!
Christine is returning for her second year as Multi-Sport counsellor. Christine recently graduated from the Child and Youth Care program at Ryerson. She is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and accepting community! Christine is pumped to start a new year, with a great group of staff, leadership and campers! She is a huge fan of kitty’s, with three of her own.
Sofia was a member of the Ryerson women’s basketball team and a recent graduate of Ryerson’s Early Childhood Studies program. She loves working with children and youth and has spent the past 4 years working with Ryerson’s Basketball Camps. This is her first year as a Multi-Sport counsellor.
Gillian is a fourth year student at Ryerson University where she studies Early Childhood Studies. She played club soccer for 10 years and has been a member of the Ryerson women’s varsity soccer team for the past 3 years. She has multiple years of experience as a camp coach in Mississauga and is looking forward to her first summer at Ryerson Summer Day Camps!
This past school year, Fernanda worked with Scixchange for Ryerson’s science outreach and communication office. She has worked towards promoting science to the public and is excited to have the opportunity to continue this work as a Eureka! Instructor. She hopes to inspire campers to pursue science and use their creativity to impact the world.
Alex is a fourth year student currently studying Chemistry at Ryerson University. He loves learning science through real life applications. Through his work with Scixchange, he has gained experience running various science workshops within the community. Alex is looking forward to trying out some cool science experiments with the campers this summer.
Spencer was a guest lecturer with the Eureka! Program last summer and is excited to be joining us as a full-time counsellor this summer. Spencer is looking forward to taking what he has learned as a student midwife to the lab and teaching campers how health and science are connected through hands on experiments and demonstrations.
Liam is an engineering counsellor with Eureka! He is going into his second year of biomedical engineering at Ryerson. He is very excited to help guide campers through lots of fun engineering activities this summer. Liam also loves sports like skateboarding, soccer and hockey. Liam loves to play the piano and pizza is his favorite food!
Rafael has done work with the Ontario Science Centre, Fairmount Community Centre and Beaches Recreation Centre. He is looking forward to working with campers and teaching them new skills. He loves making campers smile and laugh.
Paari is an Electrical Engineering student at Ryerson University. He will be working as an engineering counsellor with the Eureka! camp this summer. He is dedicated to teaching campers innovative engineering concepts in ways that are fun and manageable for all ages.
Semeen is an Architectural Science student at Ryerson University. This summer she will be taking on the role of counsellor with our digital creativity camp (weeks 3-4) and our architectural science camp (Weeks 5-7). She loves drawing, reading, playing video games and watching movies and TV shows. This is Semeen’s first summer as a camp counsellor, but she has volunteered with youth in language and buddy programs. She is looking forward to having some great new experiences this summer!
Gloria is in her third year at Ryerson University where she studies Architectural Science. She is passionate about integrating design and culture within the urban realm. Gloria is skilled in 3D modelling and fabrication. She is excited to meet all of the talented campers this summer!
Vivian is a third year Architectural Science student at Ryerson University. In addition to architecture, her interests include the arts, graphic design, reading, and travel. Vivian has lived in Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, Panama, and Canada. This travel experience has allowed her the opportunity to learn several different languages, of which she can speak English fluently, as well as Swahili, Kikuyu and Spanish with moderate proficiency. She is looking forward to passing on her knowledge in Adobe suite programs, design, and digital fabrication in the Digital Creativity and Architectural Science Camps.
Mathew is a member of the Ryerson Men’s hockey team and as has been playing hockey for 19 years. He played Junior hockey for 4 years and professionally for 1. He is currently in his second year at Ryerson University where he studies Geography.
Mel grew up playing hockey at the highest level for various teams across the GTA. She is a member of the Ryerson Women’s Hockey team. She is in her second year of Criminology at Ryerson University, and is looking forward to meeting all the campers this summer.
Tre recently completed his first year of Business Management. He is also a member of the Ryerson Men’s Hockey team. He loves to joke around and play sports. Tre is always carries a big smile on his face and stays positive in all aspects of his life!
Steven is a member of the Ryerson Men’s Hockey team. He studies Biomedical Science at Ryerson. Steven loves teaching new skills and tricks to campers and is looking forward to working at camp this summer.
Keelin is a member of the Ryerson Women’s Hockey team. She is going into her second year of Early Childhood Studies, and is looking forward to helping her campers develop their hockey skills. Keelin loves watermelon and jokes … especially puns!
Daniel is a member of the Ryerson Men’s hockey team. He studies Business Management at Ryerson and is majoring in entrepreneurship. He is passionate about hockey and has played it all his life. He spent two years in the OHL playing for the Guelph Storm before attending Ryerson
Jayden is a member of the Ryerson men’s basketball team and a student at Ryerson University.
Stefanija is a member of the Ryerson women’s basketball team. She is in her second year at Ryerson where she studies Business. She has worked with other camps in the past and is excited for her first year as a member of the Ryerson Day Camps staff team.
Tanor is a member of the Ryerson men’s basketball team. He studies Art at Contemporary studies at Ryerson. He is looking forward to having a positive impact on the campers and hopes that his drive and determination will rub off on the campers. His goal this summer to make every camper smile.
Latifah is originally from Montreal. This is Latifah’s first year with Ryerson Summer Day Camps. She attended Concordia University for 2 years where she played on the women’s basketball team. She now studies Child and Youth Care at Ryerson and plays for the Ryerson Women’s Basketball team. Latifah is looking forward to working with the Ryerson Basketball camps for the first time and embracing this new experience
Jv plays for the Ryerson men’s basketball team. He also studies Child and Youth Care at Ryerson and is minoring in psychology. He enjoys with children over the summer and can’t wait to share with them his love for the game by teaching them day by day!
